Promoting Aviation and Inspiring Kids to Reach for Space and Beyond

A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books. Anyone may take a book, or bring a book to share. Little Free Library book exchanges have a unique, personal touch. There is an understanding that real people are sharing their favorite books with their community; little libraries have been called “mini-town squares.”

As part of our mission of promoting aviation and inspiring kids to reach for space and beyond, we think that the Doc Manget Memorial Aviation Park at the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is the perfect location to build a Little Free Library filled with aviation books for kids of all ages! The library will be positioned underneath the quonset hut, adjacent to the playground.

The PDK Little Free Aviation Library will be modeled after the iconic WWII hangar, once home to Navy airplanes, and now in use by EPPS Aviation. We have selected a series of titles focusing on aerospace and STEAM subjects, and we look forward to growing the collection with suggestions and additions from the local community.

The library will be listed on the national Little Free Library website, which lists the locations of Little Free Libraries across the country.

The estimated cost of building this custom designed library, purchase of age appropriate aviation themed books, estabilish a reserve for the replace non-returned books and the registration to the Little Free Library Foundation is $1,000.

Get on board and help us build an aerospace themed Little Free Library in our community!

The library will resemble the look of the 1941 WWII hangar, now home of EPPS Aviation.
